Bargain of the week

Chapel Hill Parson’s Nose Shiraz, McLaren Vale 2011 $16

This is quite a gutsy red for what we might expect to be a lighter year. Deep purple-red hue and ripe black-plum aroma, with subtle lacing of spice. It’s clean and firm on the palate with good depth and weight and some chunky tannins. It could even take some age gracefully. Very good value. Now to 2021. 14.5 per cent alcohol. 88/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)

Food: hearty beef casserole

Stockists: Porter’s Liquor and Dan Murphy’s
