Tower Estate Tasmania Pinot Noir, Tasmania 2011 $30

image

In previous years Tower Estate has made two Tassie pinots, one from Meadowbank vineyard in the Derwent Valley, another from Panorama in the Huon Valley region. This year’s is a blend of the two. The colour is good and deep; the aromas inviting with a strong hint of foresty stem complexity. In the mouth it shows lush cherry fruit, sweet at first and then savoury, mellow and long with a soft-tannin texture, and fresh but balanced acidity. It builds towards the finish, as all good pinot should. A delicious pinot at a good price. Now to 2020. 13.5 per cent alcohol. 92/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)

Food: grilled marinated quail; magret de canard; game pie; mushroom risotto.
