“Wine Grapes”, the new reference book by Jancis Robinson, Julia Harding and José Vouillamoz, has won its fifth major award in three countries, less than a year after being launched.

It took out the inaugural Fortnum & Mason award for ‘best drink book’, announced on May 14. It’s also won the James Beard Foundation award for ‘best beverage book of 2012’; the André Simon award for ‘best drinks book of 2012’; the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards ‘best drinks book of 2012’; and Wine & Spirits Magazine ‘best drinks book of 2012’.

All these awards have been bestowed since November. A guide to 1,368 grape varieties, the hefty tome was published by Allen Lane last October and is distributed here by Penguin, cloth-bound in a slip-case.

Its RRP is $199 but Booktopia and Book Depository have it for $130 to $140; Amazon for $100. The e-book will be released on September 5.
