E & E Black Pepper Shiraz makers in receivership
Hot on the heels of news that Rutherglen family winery R.L. Buller & Sons (tasting notes) is in receivership comes the news that Barossa Valley Estates has also appointed receivers.
BVE, famous for its E & E Black Pepper Shiraz (tasting notes), is a co-operative, which was bought from its previous owner Accolade by grapegrower shareholders.
Both are examples of the modern winery’s problem: it’s one thing to make good wine, and quite another to sell it.
Both are arguably better at producing wine than they are at marketing it. It’s especially sad to see a third-generation family winery like Buller struggling.
Founded in 1921, Buller has wineries at Rutherglen and Sunraysia, near Swan Hill.
