McGuigan makes history by winning Winemaker of the Year yet again

Hunter Valley semillon was the backbone of McGuigan’s big success at this year’s International Wine & Spirit Competition in England.

McGuigan (tasting notes) won International Winemaker of the Year for the third time in four years, the previous wins being in 2009 and 2011.

It’s the first time in the 43-year history of the competition that any wine producer from anywhere in the world has been awarded the title three times.

The key wine was the 2004 McGuigan Bin 9000 Semillon, which scored the International Semillon Trophy.

As well, the 1997 and 2011 vintages of the same wine won ‘best in class’ gold medals, while the 2003 and 2005 also won gold medals.

The 2007 McGuigan Shortlist Semillon also won a ‘best in class’ gold medal, as did McGuigan Farms Barossa Shiraz 2009.
