Daily Double for Richard Hamilton
It was the first time in the competition’s 18 years that the same wine has taken out both the trophies – best wine of show and best wine under $25 a bottle.
The winning entry was the 2010 Richard Hamilton Shiraz ($19.95 – my tasting note), from McLaren Vale. It is serendipitous that this year the company celebrates 175 years in winemaking.
There were 371 entries covering the vintages 2011 to 2002, and the judging panel was chaired by winemaking consultant Gary Baldwin.
