61 “outstanding” achievements for Australia
Australia continues to excel in overseas wine shows – leading the southern hemisphere nations at the recent 2012 International Wine & Spirit Competition in the UK.
We won 61 gold or ‘outstanding gold’ medals, the latter being apparently a new award equivalent to a ‘double gold’ or ‘high gold’ in some other shows. South Africa also did well, with 44 gold or outstanding gold medals.
In the international trophies (won against all countries), Fox Creek 2009 Reserve Shiraz won the trophy for best shiraz of show – which is a major, strongly contested award; McGuigan Bin 9000 Semillon 2004 was best semillon, and De Bortoli Old Boys 21-year-old Tawny was the best fortified wine.
