Coonwarra terra rossa

If you ever wondered why the fuss about the famous terra rossa soil of Coonawarra’s central strip, here’s a shot I took of Doug Bowen of Bowen Estate (tasting notes) a few days ago, standing in a vineyard he’s about to replant to his chosen clone of cabernet sauvignon.

It’s right beside the Riddoch Highway and the setting sun highlights just how red this beautiful soil, which is so right for cabernet, can be.
