Wynns Coonawarra Estate Tops Recent Barrel Auction

Wynns Coonawarra Estate topped the recent Coonawarra annual barrel auction, with a price of $24,118 for its barrique of 2010 cabernet sauvignon – equivalent to more than $100 a bottle.

The average price per barrel sold was $17,000, and by all reports there was stronger than usual interest and a large attendance, perhaps due to the buzz surrounding the excellent 2010 vintage. Barrels from Brand’s Laira, Parker Estate, Yalumba The Menzies, Lindemans, Katnook Estate, Majella, Zema Estate and Wynns were selected by a tasting panel to represent the finest Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon from the 2010 vintage. The net proceeds from the Wynns barrel will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
