Ask Bob

We are holding a fashion parade/wine & cheese for 70 women for 2 hours – how much wine do you purchase and in what ratios?

You don’t mention the time of day (consumption is lower at lunch and near zero in the morning) so I’ll assume it’s an evening function.

A good ratio of white to red is three to one (in favour of white). Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are the two top white choices although the rising star, Pinot Gris, will get snapped up if available (particularly by women).

For red I would choose a reasonably soft wine such as Merlot or Pinot Noir (if the budget allows).

Half a bottle per head would probably more than cover the event although I would tend to play safe and buy more than you’ll need on a “sale or return” basis.
